                                         Termites

There are about 2,000 known species of termites throughout the world. They can tunnel to wooden structures (like your home) and can cause extensive damage. They will feed on the wood until nothing is left but a shell. The experts at Standard Exterminating Company, Inc. use Termidor®, an advanced undetectable liquid technology. That means termites cannot see, smell, taste, or avoid it. Instead, they contact, ingest and share Termidor, completely unaware that doing so inevitably will kill them.

Seeing termite swarmers is the first sign of trouble because it means that a termite colony is about to infest and destroy the wooden structures of your home. If you see a swarm, immediately close off the room where the insects are swarming. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove as many of the swarmers as you can, and note the exact locations from which the swarmers are emerging. If you experience a swarm, call Standard Exterminating Company, Inc. to schedule a FREE inspection.

In addition to free inspections, Standard Exterminating Company Inc. offers, same day, and emergency services for your convenience. All of our treatments are performed by registered technicians and are guaranteed.

                                        Bed Bugs

Bedbugs are small, nocturnal, wingless insects that belong to the family of Cimicidae. They feed on human blood and other warm-blooded hosts. They are oval in shape and grow up to 4-5mm long when fully grown. Their skin color is rust brown to a deeper red brown. Bedbugs are also known as "mahogany flats", "red coats" and "chinches." Not only are they flattened, but they are also thin which creates a great advantage for them. They can hide in unusual places such as behind baseboards, floor cracks, and under carpets or behind loose wallpaper, which makes them difficult to detect.

Bedbugs tend to stay close together and have a distinctively sweet, yet unpleasant smell. Blood spotting on mattresses and nearby furnishings are also signs of a bedbug infestation.

Bedbugs feed on blood as their only source of nutrition. In order to mature into adults, they must feed once during each of their immature stages. Adult females also need blood in order to produce eggs. Although bedbugs do bite humans, they are not carriers of any diseases which are transmittable to people. Bedbug bites are not initially painful and can go unnoticed for hours or days. This allows bedbugs to withdraw human blood for up to ten minutes each feeding. Bites occur most commonly on the upper body, neck, arms and shoulders.

Some individuals who are bitten by bedbugs develop itching, red welts or swelling the day after being bitten. However, bites may not become obvious for several days on some individuals.
