Our Story

Since 1974, CENTURY 21 Broadhurst & Associates has served the Grand Strand area’s real estate needs. J.P. McAlpine, O’Dell Marsh and Rachel Broadhurst, all former real estate brokers with their own companies, organized the firm, McApine, Marsh & Broadhurst in October 1973.

In 1979, the three partners McAlpine, Marsh & Broadhurst decided to join the CENTURY 21-franchise organization, which they felt would change the face of the real estate industry, and CENTURY 21 & Associates was born! The industry was changing at break neck speed. Technology and computerization were taking over the real estate business. It was exciting to be a part of these events.

In the early 80’s, Mr. Marsh and Mr. McAlpine both retired, leaving founding partner Rachel Broadhurst and her husband Larry Broadhurst to continue with the firm. Subsequently, the name was changed to CENTURY 21 Broadhurst & Associates.

CENTURY 21 Broadhurst & Associates continued its successful growth and Rachel Broadhurst became increasingly recognized as a predominant figure within the real estate community:

Honored as a SC Distinguished Honor Board President three times, Career Woman of the Year, South Carolina Realtor of the Year, Myrtle Beach Realtor of the Year. She was the Century 21 2008/09 Broker Council President for South Carolina and served as President of the local Association of REALTORS on three different occasions.

And if that wasn’t enough, she even found time during her career to serve the community she so loved in numerous elected positions as well: Myrtle Beach Planning and Zoning Commissions, Myrtle Beach City Council and the Better Business Bureau.

Rachel was always known for a smile, a kind word and her speedy response to any difficulty…

“You don’t have a problem, until it’s a problem”

Her vision, for the company’s continued success, was secured by surrounding herself with some of the most qualified, dedicated and well-trained professional salespeople and staff in the industry.

In 2010, after Rachel’s untimely passing, Jamie Broadhurst assumed the role of President of the company, and with his father Larry Broadhurst, have adamantly maintained their commitment to the founding principles of CENTURY 21 Broadhurst for the future:

“The changes our company has witnessed in the community and industry are just beginning, and during the next two decades will far surpass those that we have seen. Today the public is more informed and more demanding than at anytime in our history. And in order for us to meet the challenges and go forward, remaining strong, successful and committed to superior service for you and your family, we can’t forget where we’ve come from nor how we got here.”
